Celebrating 26 years of Winter Fun
at Bryce Canyon National Park and Ruby’s Inn
February 19th, 20th, & 21th 2011
RUBY’S INN ACTIVITIES
Continuing the tradition of providing a variety of learning opportunities we will be including clinics for
skiers, snowshoers, photographers, as well as activities for the kids.
SATURDAY MORNING FESTIVAL REGISTRATION 8:00 AM
By Pool in Ruby’s Inn Main Lodge—Additional information and registration will move to the
Lobby for the rest of the event.
BASIC MORNING YOGA 9:00-10:00 AM Sat, Sun, Monday
Red Canyon Rooms
Open to everyone – from beginner to experienced yoga practitioner. Basic yoga is an introduction
to Anusara Yoga, breathing techniques and beginning poses. Wear comfortable exercise clothing.
Please bring your own mat and props if you have them. Bonnie and Larry O’Neil will teach the class.
Bonnie is the Director of Fitness at the Cliff Spa at Snowbird, and has been a yoga practitioner for
over 23 years. Larry is a Life Coach and has taught yoga to all levels for the past 11 years.
KAYAKING DEMOS Sat, Sunday 10:00-10:30 Adult sessions.
10:30-Noon half-hour sessions.
Want to learn how to kayak? Now is your chance! Half-hour kayaking demos will be held in the pool
Saturday and Sunday mornings. Please sign up early because equipment is limited. The fi rst session
(10:00-10:30) on both Saturday and Sunday mornings will be for adults only. The other sessions are
open to all ages. Charlie Butler, co-owner of Wasatch Touring, along with his wife Karen and friends
will help you stay afl oat.
CRAFTS FOR KIDS Saturday & Sunday
Kids of all ages will enjoy making Valentine buttons and foam airplanes on Saturday; leather snakes
and bean bag balls on Sunday. Each class will be split into two groups – one group will do one
project while the other group does a different project. Then the groups will switch, allowing all
children to make both crafts. The crafts classes will be conducted by Debbie Eldredge, Marla Boren,
Jessica Eldredge, and Rachel Alvarez.
SNOWSHOE TOURS 10:00 Saturday 10:30 Sunday
Joe Rechsteiner of the Dixie National Forest will lead these tours into the ponderosa forests
surrounding Ruby’s Inn.

SKI CLINICS: Lori Lange Skate and Classical
Lori skied on the University of Wyoming Nordic ski team 1982-1986. She was named to the NCAA
All-American team in 1983. Lori coached the Mt. Bachelor Ski Foundation Nordic team 1986-1989.
Since that time she has continued to race in the Wasatch Citizen Series and won the fi rst classical
race of this season in the age class bracket of the women’s fi eld. She was one of the coaches for
Park City Nordic Ski Team kicker and gliders program as well.

“Surefi re Tips to Improve Your Landscape Photography” Saturday
We’ll look at a number of different considerations for improving landscape photos, and some of the
basic compositional rules involved. If there are enough people interested in some very basic tips, I’ll
cover some of those as well.
What to do with all those Digital Photos” Sunday
Sunday’s photography clinic “What to do with all those Digital Photos” will offer instruction and tips
on organizing, archiving and sharing digital photos in a world of constantly changing technology. We
will also demonstrate and discuss basic editing techniques and free tools for making your images
pop! Classes will be held in Red Canyon Room B. The class is presented by Scott Eldredge, the
Digital Initiatives Program Manager for the Lee Library at BYU.
PHOTO CONTEST
The details will be announced and this year will include a category for video testimonials/
commercials that can be used on Ruby’s web site and Facebook.
WATERCOLOR CLASSES Brian Thayne Saturday and Sunday
Orem artist Brian Thayne will teach the basics of watercolor painting. Brian will do a watercolor
demo on Saturday in Ruby’s Inn lobby. Stop by and watch the master at work. He will also have
artwork displayed in the lobby. Brian will offer watercolor classes: one for adults and two for
children. The kids class is limited to 35 per class (one on Saturday and one on Sunday). Please
sign up in advance. For the kids classes, please sign up for only one class so everyone has an
opportunity to paint. Brian’s paintings refl ect his world travel.
ARCHERY BIATHLON ($10) Clinic Saturday, Race Sunday
Open to all ages and abilities. Entrants must participate in Saturday’s Archery Clinic or demonstrate
profi ciency in archery. $10 entry fee includes a long sleeve t-shirt. Register Saturday from 5-8PM
or before 10AM on Sunday. The kid’s race for 12 & under starts at 11AM on Sunday. The 6KM
competition will follow. Limited equipment is available for use. Bring your own if you have it. Please
register early! Awards ceremony will be held in the Red Canyon Room at 5:00 Sunday. A special
thanks to biathlon director Eric Quilter and his assistants!

SHOOTING TRAILER Saturday Only Lynn Chamberlain Utah DNR
Basic shooting safety for kids. Come and try supervised shooting at targets with air guns.
KIDS SNOWBOOT RACES – FREE! Monday
Fun for kids. Bring your kids to the archery range area. Make sure they are wearing boots so they
can run in the snow. This very short, fun race will be divided into several age groups.
SATURDAY DANCES
WESTERN DANCE INSTRUCTION:
Join us at 6:30-8:00 pm, at Ebenezer’s Barn and Grill, for western dance instruction. Fun dances for the
whole family include: Virginia Reel, Western Round Dance, Texas Two-step Round dance, Western Line
Dance, and Country Swing.
NO FRILLS FREE DANCE
Plan to stay after the Western dance instruction and enjoy a DJ playing your favorite tunes combined
with video.
SUNDAY NIGHT GUEST SPEAKER Bruce Tremper 8:00 PM
Bruce Tremper is the Director of the Utah Avalanche Center and the author of the book Staying
Alive in Avalanche Terrain. He will present an hour-long, multi-media talk on the basics of avalanche
safety. The talk includes an exciting, 15-minute video followed by a half-hour PowerPoint
presentation on the basics of avalanche safety such as avalanche rescue, avalanche terrain, obvious
clues to instability and safe travel practices. These avalanche talks are very popular and well
attended throughout the state of Utah.
CROSS COUNTRY SKI RACES ($10) Monday
Kids 2KM race starts at 9:30AM Monday. The 10KM free-technique race starts at 10AM Monday.
Entry fee is $10 and includes a long sleeve t-shirt. Register at the festival registration desk Sunday
evening or up to one -half hour before event begins. Please register early!

*All Snowshoe Hikes are moderately strenuous 1-2 mile, 2-hr long hikes
Snowshoes and poles provided all participants must have snowboots or water-proof hiking boots
All snowshoes hikes are limited to 25 people. Reservations can be made in person or by calling 435-
834-4747.
Reservations for Full Moon snowshoe hikes can only be made 48 hrs. in advance
If snow depth is insuffi cient all snowshoe hike will become a hiking boot walk on the Queens Garden
Trail
In the event of stormy or overcast weather full moon hikes will be canceled.
Participants are responsible for their own Park Entry Fee.
